About Lauren
Lauren Boozer is a lyric soprano from Lookout Mountain, Georgia, currently pursuing her Master’s of Music in Voice Performance at the University of Tennessee under the instruction of Renée Tatum. Lauren is a passionate performer with a growing presence in the operatic world. She fell in love with performing as a young Broadway fan, and she started performing in musical theater in middle school.
Since graduating from Mississippi State University in 2023 and moving to Tennessee, Lauren has been heavily involved in the opera community in Knoxville. She made her mainstage debut with Knoxville Opera as Frasquita in their 2025 production of Carmen, having sung in the chorus of several Knoxville Opera productions since 2023. She has performed in many local outreach events, such as the Knoxville Opera Young Audiences tour, and she regularly sings at the Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan. In 2022, she made her international debut as Barbarina in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte at the Festival of International Opera Italia in 2022. She will sing the role of the Vixen in UT Opera’s upcoming production of The Cunning Little Vixen by Janáček.
Lauren has also participated in several competitions, earning first place in the junior treble and musical theater categories at Mississippi NATS 2022, and first place in the senior treble category at Mississippi NATS 2023. She was the winner of Mississippi State University’s 2022 Concerto Competition, as well as the University of Tennessee 2026 Concerto Competition.
Lauren also teaches voice lessons to students of all ages through the Louise School of Music, located in Knoxville, Tennessee.
“I believe that teaching is most effective when a teacher begins from a place of welcoming and understanding. Singing at its core is an expression of the human experience which means that singing is a highly personal art. In my teaching, I take this into account by ensuring that each student feels safe to try new things and feels confident about the natural abilities that they already possess. I take a flexible approach to teaching– not every technique will work for every student. My goal is to help students to be confident in their voices and to offer a safe space for making mistakes.” -Lauren
Rock n’ roll
Proficient in many styles, Lauren is a skilled performer of opera, musical theater, and even rock music! She was the “frontman” of the rock cover band “Government Plates” from 2021-2023. The band was regularly hired to perform at venues and various events in and around the Starkville, MS area and quickly became a local favorite.
Known for their high-energy performances, Government Plates covered everything from the Smashing Pumpkins to Al Green to Taylor Swift.
